Mr. McKinney is an assistant principal. His academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Communication and Media Studies, Master of Education (M.Ed.) Intervention Specialist, and Master of Education (M.Ed.) Educational Leadership/Principal Leisure.

Mr. McKinney grew up in a blue collar family. He shared one of his keys to success regarding mentorship:

Listen to the adults who have wisdom and were there before you… You have to seek out the right counsel and the right people.

Aside from being a transformational leader in education, Mr. McKinney is also a coach of multiple sports, as well as positive role model within the community. He serves a principal officer and director of education for The BJ Kids 91 Foundation; a non-profit that assists at-risk children with success in the classroom by promoting literacy, providing meals, haircuts & school supplies.

As an educator in the same community he grew up in, Mr. McKinney empathizes with these young people and the socioeconomic barriers they face. He spoke encouraging words regarding young black men who may not know what they want to do with their life:

To my young brothas, you can do anything that you set your mind to. No matter how dire your situation is, there are countless examples of people that have made it who people counted out. And I am one of them…. See yourself being successful. Once you see yourself being successful, speak it into existence…then you plan, and prepare, and execute it!.
